Our Story

Early in 2008 during a Stroller Strides class while we were doing our abs/cool down session Ami asked our group "So does anyone want to train to run a half marathon?"  Instantly my hand shot up in the air.  I had always dreamed of running, but was one of those people who always came up with an excuse of why I couldn't run...it hurts my knees, I'm just not a runner, I hate it, I don't have enough time, I have to watch my kids...you name it and I've probably used it.  I was ready to be done with the excuses and give it my all.  Fast forward to October...Ami had just had Nathan 6 weeks earlier and had the green light from her doctor to start running.  Ami, Rachelle, and I met at the local high school track and did our first night of training.  The same training program many of you have done.

I can remember telling Ami, "Come on! you seriously want me to run all the way around the track without stopping?!?!?"  I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE!!!

Looking back I can laugh at that, but so many of our moms have that same feeling the first time they start running.  Just know that we can relate to how you feel and it gets better!  I Promise!

We met at the track 4 nights a week for a few weeks then started running in our neighborhoods for different distances.  We ran Our First 5k  on Thanksgiving and got a taste of the race atmosphere.  We had our good runs, some AWESOME runs, and some runs we would rather forget.  Each of us, at our own time, had our "breakthrough run"...the run where running just clicked for us.  I'm sure each of us will post about this in the future.

Before we knew it,  twenty weeks had passed, just about a year from when Ami first asked us if we wanted to run,  and it was time for the 2009 ATT Austin Half Marathon.

After we were done, we all had such a great feeling of accomplishment!  We had completed a goal that we had set and felt so proud of ourselves.  We didn't want this feeling to end, but more importantly we wanted to help other moms do the same thing... and Moms on the Run was born!

We organized our group in March 2009 and had our First 5k Training session soon after.  We are now in our 3rd Training session and are scheduled to have the 4th in the summer!  Over 30 moms have started running and accomplished their first 5k just in one year!  I can't wait to see what the future holds for Moms on the Run!!
